I have been thinking on this quite a bit for some time. Because I have been interested in the notion of nuance, which is a thing that cannot be quite recorded, sustained, or preserved in any way, I wanted to explore the ways how recorded subject could be distinguished from non-recorded memory of a subject that might possibly able to bear some touch of nuance that was present with the occurrence of the subject.
With my new painting Memory and Record I try to represent my view of how memory and record function respectively in relation to one another.
The actual Post-it notes and the images of them are used in the painting to represent subjects that can only be present in either revisiting experience or in recalled memory.
