My 5-year-old computer died last week and took all the information that I had been storing in it with it. I don't care much about the data that are re-write and re-creatable, but I felt sad for all the memories that were to be triggered by the data that was in the computer.
This occurrence proves not only my self-contradicting existence, but also my point that I'm trying to achieve with my thesis.
I'm very tempted to live through the rest of my school year without the computer, however unlikely an option it might be for me.

Memory and Record
I have been thinking on this quite a bit for some time. Because I have been interested in the notion of nuance, which is a thing that cannot be quite recorded, sustained, or preserved in any way, I wanted to explore the ways how recorded subject could be distinguished from non-recorded memory of a subject that might possibly able to bear some touch of nuance that was present with the occurrence of the subject.
With my new painting Memory and Record I try to represent my view of how memory and record function respectively in relation to one another.
The actual Post-it notes and the images of them are used in the painting to represent subjects that can only be present in either revisiting experience or in recalled memory.

A Statement on Mediation

With this work, I have written up a short statement on consequences of mediation. To me, the biggest problem with mediation is the further removal from the original reality. When mediated, a new reality occurs based o the new context. In a matter of time, the original reality is buried deep under the layers ad layers of mediation and become inaccessible.
When scribing is a form of mediation, my statement loses original meaning as it is written down over and over again. The texts may not serve its original purpose, but here, the statement does demonstrate a consequence of mediation.
